Growing up, the highlight of Fourth of July was when Mom would gather us around her homemade cake, exclaiming “Let’s sing Happy Birthday to America!” Independence Day in Colonial Williamsburg is a very close second, full of historical magic and excited voices crying “Huzzah!” Colonial Williamsburg is offering free admission for Independence Day visitors. Below is the schedule of events:
9:30am – Thomas Jefferson reads the Declaration of Independence at the Capitol in the Colonial Williamsburg Historic Area.
10am – The Colonial Williamsburg Fifes and Drums presents Salute to the States, saluting the 13 original states.
12pm – Noon reading of the Declaration of Independence on the Courthouse steps by residents of 18th-century Williamsburg.
4pm – Independence Day Summer Breeze Concert
9pm – Lights of Freedom firework display over the Governor’s Mansion.
