Every good vacation starts with a good vacation packing list. Do you know what to bring on your summer vacation to Williamsburg, Virginia? Not to worry! After 11 summers in the hospitality and tourism industry, with thousands of guests coming in and out, we know what they end up needing while they’re here and what they usually forget!
Let’s start with the basics…
Walking Shoes! Anyone who has ever visited Williamsburg knows the importance of packing along a good, comfortable pair of walking shoes. There is no shortage of walking! There’s walking through the Colonial Williamsburg settlement, walking through the Jamestown settlement, walking the Yorktown Riverwalk, walking the Premium Outlet stores, walking the shoppes of Merchant’s Square, doing a nature walk at Waller Mill Nature Park, walking through the Busch Gardens amusement parks…and we could go on! Guests that forget their walking shoes always have to buy a pair!
Sun Protection! Prepare to get some sun! Clear skies are great for vacation, but it also means those planning to be outdoors need to bring sun protection. We have seen more than a few guests come back from a day out with blisters!
An Umbrella! While it may be quite sunny most of the time, Williamsburg also comes with its share of summer showers. Plan to bring an umbrella, a poncho, and a plan B in case of rainy weather. Guests that stay a few days often need to be flexible with their schedule. We recommend planning a day with indoor activities in case of rain. (The Williamsburg Winery tours are great for a rainy day!)
A Camera! The history and beauty of Virginia begs to be captured. You’ll definitely want to remember this trip, so bring your camera.
But wait…are we going to get wet? Maybe!
A Bathing Suit! There is plenty of reasons to bring a bathing suit to Williamsburg. There are two, nearby riverfront beaches as well as the Virginia Beachfront just an hour away. In addition, Busch Gardens also has a waterpark, Water Country USA, another great place to cool off.
Okay, but how dressy are the restaurants?
Semi-Formal Dinner Attire! While Williamsburg is a family-friendly tourist town, it boasts being one of the most romantic couples destinations as well. There are quite a few fabulous restaurants you’ll want to try out that require semi-formal attire. A few of our favorites are The Fat Canary, Opus 9, and Le Yaca.
And last but not least…
Don’t forget your toothbrush!
