As the conditions this weekend are not exactly conducive to activities, we thought we should take a moment to go over some emergency kit necessities. In the face of any type of natural weather disaster, you should always prepare for a power outage situation, just to be safe. Even with the forecast of hurricane Joaquin (hopefully) heading out to sea, here are some must- haves to stock up on in the case of extreme flooding in your area.
- Water (at least a 3-day supply; one gallon per person per day)
- Food (at least a 3-day supply of non-perishable, easy-to-prepare food)
- Battery-powered or hand-crank radio
- Flashlight
- Extra batteries
- First aid kit & 7 day supply of medications /medical supplies (along with medication list and pertinent medical information)
- Sanitation and personal hygiene items
- Copies of personal documents (proof of address, deed/lease to home, passports, birth certificates, insurance policies)
- Cell phone & charger
- Family/ emergency contact information
- Extra cash
- Vehicle Filled with Gas
- Emergency blanket
- Extra set of car & house keys
- Extra clothing & Rain gear
- Camera for photos of damage
- If applicable: Baby supplies (diapers, wipes, bottles) or Pet supplies (collar, leash, food, carrier, bowl)
Hurricane season is in full swing and being prepared for weather events can never hurt, especially when conditions become dangerous rapidly or even unexpectedly. Be safe this weekend!
