Triple Your 4th of July Fun in America’s Historic Triangle

America’s Historic Triangle is made up of three important locations in America’s history: Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown. Lucky for us, all three are located within just a few miles of our location!

Being in the heart of America’s Historic Triangle makes Williamsburg, Virginia one of the best places in the United States to spend the 4th of July. These three areas are great on their own, but on the 4th of July, they come together to make a really special celebration. That means there is three times the great food, three times the activities, and three times the 4th of July fun!

We’ve put together some information about the 4th of July 2019 Celebrations at these three settlements and what to expect for the upcoming holiday weekend.

2019 4th of July Celebration in America’s Historic Triangle

Colonial Williamsburg

In fact, we just wrote a post a few weeks ago about some of the amazing summer activities happening there. (Click here to read that post.) One of the activities we mentioned is the 4th of July Lights of Freedom Fireworks display. However, this is not the only event that will be taking place on the 4th. Other fun activities will be Breakfast with Thomas Jefferson at Shields Tavern, Reading of the Declaration of Independence, picnicking on the Palace Green, and the Fife & Drum Processional.

These events are just a few highlights taking place on the 4th of July. The settlement itself will be alive with the hustle and bustle of the holiday, including organic reenactments and interactive activities throughout.

Colonial Williamsburg may be one of the more well-known settlements in the area, but we can’t stop there! Just down the road are two more amazing locations that make up the triangle and you won’t want to miss them.

Yorktown

Revolutionary War reenactors firing a canon at Yorktown Settlement In Yorktown, The American Revolution Museum holds the  Liberty Celebration on the 4th of July. Throughout the day, reenactors will perform military drills and artillery salutes, invite guests to join in patriotic musical numbers and sing-a-longs, and teach visitors about 18th century farm life. This museum also has impressive exhibits available, the newest one being “Forgotten Soldier”. At the end of the day, downtown Yorktown has a modern patriotic parade, band concert, and firework display over the Yorktown River.

Jamestown

The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation made it possible to purchase discount tickets to the Jamestown settlement and the American Revolution Museum, so you can visit both! The Jamestown settlement is set in 1607, over a hundred years before the Revolutionary War. However, because it is all about the new settlers in the new world of America, it still carries an important and special place in the Historic Triangle. Visitors can set foot on recreations of a few of the ships that brought settlers to the new world in 1607. Visitors can visit the settlement and the gallery, allowing for a look inside 17th century American life and what brought us to where we are today. You’ll definitely want to visit American Evolution and the new gallery exhibits.

P.S. Even if you can’t make it for the 4th of July, these great settlements are available to visit all year long. With events and exhibits throughout the year, you’ll want to come back again and again.
