Why Winter is a Great Time to Visit a Bed and Breakfast
Winter is the low season for travel and tourism. We find that most folks tend to travel in the summer and fall months, so once the holidays have passed, things tend to slow down. This makes winter is a great time to travel! With less crowds and off-season discounts, there are lots of advantages to scheduling your vacations during this time.
We think this goes double if you like to stay in bed and breakfasts. Even if it’s just a quick weekend getaway, we highly recommend giving it a try.
Here’s why we think winter is a great time to visit a bed and breakfast:
Beautiful Winter Settings
Bed and breakfasts are known for their quaint settings. You’ll usually find that the best bed and breakfasts are located in a quaint area, on private land, and usually surrounded by stunning, natural beauty. While these settings are mostly praised in summer and fall, winter should definitely not go overlooked! After over 10 years of living and working in our bed and breakfast, we still find our grounds breathtaking after a fresh snow. Spending quiet winter nights surrounded by this beauty is something special that we think everyone should experience.
Cozy, Home-Away-from-Home Accommodations
After enjoying all that natural outdoor winter beauty, you may feel a bit chilly. There is nothing more relaxing than stepping into your warm home after a day out in the cold and the real draw of staying at a bed and breakfast is the home away from home experience that it provides. You get the best of both worlds…feeling while you’re at home, while being pampered on vacation. Many inns will also offer afternoon tea, coffee, and snacks to complete that experience.
Warm, Hearty Breakfasts
There is no better way to prepare for a day out in winter weather than a warm, delicious breakfast. While some bed and breakfasts may offer a limited, continental breakfast spread, many others (like us!) will offer a full, sit down meal included with your stay. We recommend finding a place that offers this amenity. There is nothing so comforting as waking up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee and bacon, especially on a cold, winter day. Off-Season Discounts
Because the winter months are usually considered the low season for tourism, (especially between November and April), you’ll often find great discounts on travel fare, tickets, hotel, and bed and breakfast accommodations. If you don’t see specials listed on the website, we recommend calling to ask about any specials that are being offered. Low season travel discounts can be a great way to save some money!
